I really wouldn't go that far, it seems not to long ago guns owned by citizens was superior to the American Military. I am referring to the Vietnam War. Yes in America people including children are killed with firearms, as an adult you should keep your firearms unacceptable to anyone. But let's not kid ourselves, the only reason American is as free as it is, is due to private citizens that own firearms.

    1. shavednhard
Americans owning guns has nothing to do with why America is free. The Bill of Rights is why America is as free as it is. Trying to take our liberties away is the problem.

And the reason we still have freedom is due largely to the fact so many own guns.

Then again tell us why other countries are free without guns? And if we are so free how come more Americans have been killed by guns since 1968 in the US than all other wars combined?

What is so free about living in a country where everyone including you and me are in danger of being shot in a mass shopfitting by someone with an assault weapons and extended magazine? Because they happen everywhere.

How about we pray for our ghastly hypocrisy?

I have been hesitant to weigh in on the terrible attacks in Israel by the Hamas terrorist group because I am not an expert on the region, nor the ongoing, many-decades-long disagreements between the Israelis and Palestinians.

Old age has taught me to try to stick to writing about what I know, and to be damn careful when commenting on the ongoing events in this region, where opinion on both sides can strike with lightning, and is lodged in solid, immovable rock.

I have spent a long time in the news business dealing with death and despair, however, and have lived a long enough life that I feel qualified typing that what took place earlier this week was among the most brutal, disgusting things I have ever seen. The images of the attack are nauseating, and truly beyond comprehension.

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?

As an American, I also feel particularly qualified to comment on the truly-awful wherever and whenever it crawls out of hell, because where I live, grown men can easily acquire military-grade weaponry at our stores or online, and then wander into our schools to hunt down and obliterate our innocent children.

It happens all the time here, because our politicians have given up on trying to do anything meaningful to stop it, except encourage people to buy more guns to protect themselves, and to fall to their knees to pray for the dead.

The truly morbid politician will actually bend hard to the ludicrous by asking for our money to protect our guns, so he or she can then provide this absurd, cold-hearted counsel the next time our children are massacred.

Because, as we all know by now, there is always a next time.

I see this week that many of these praying politicians are absolutely outraged by what happened in Israel, and want the offenders of this brutal attack to pay with their blood. They are saying we should do whatever is necessary to make sure this kind of terrible thing never happens again.

Prayer is optional in this instance.

I feel qualified to tell these politicians to kindly go slither into the nearest gutter and shut the fuck up, because when they’ve decided a child’s life isn’t worth their time and effort, they have given up on any notion of being a meaningful human being. Their opinion on literally anything is as worthless as they are.

If you think I am wandering off a bit from the evil that transpired in Israel you might be right, but stay with me a little longer, because I am telling you the same type of man that was part of that awful attack there, is doing the same awful things here with the blessings of our praying politicians.

So far this year, nearly 30,000 have been killed by gun violence in the United States — more than a 1,000 of them have been children. Since 1999, 338,000 children have experienced gun violence at school.

Every year, more and more children are being shot to death, because every year there are more and more guns.

Look, my only real opinion on the events in Israel and the Middle East is forged from my time working at newspapers and trying to figure out what to present to our readers on the endless conflict. During my time in journalism, we published hundreds of stories and did our level best to explain the seemingly unexplainable in the region to our subscribers.

What we learned from them in countless readership surveys, is that most of ‘em just couldn’t be bothered to give a damn. Many of the comments we got from these readers sounded something like this: “Things will never change there.”

I’d be as bold as to reckon that 90 percent of the U.S. population couldn't even begin to explain what has been going on over there the past 75 years in anything resembling cogent terms.

This does not make what has transpired in the region all these many years any less grim, but it does highlight a reality: When people think there is no hope, they will simply tune out, and take their interests elsewhere.

If averages hold, 12 children will be gunned down in America today. Some politician somewhere will ask us to pray, and maybe even for our money. Too many people will simply throw their hands up and say, “Things will never change here.”

    Let us pray.

I literally travel all over the southern United States, and yes we are armed, but have never been scared to go anywhere because I am scared of being in a mass shooting. I guess the murders that I take to different places have my mind focused on what is at hand. Statistacly speaking you have a better chance of dieing in a car wreck than being shot.

    1. darkride
Yes but if you lived in any other Western country, you'd be SO MUCH SAFER and less likely to die from guns. Why choose to have so many people die, including children, when you could choose otherwise.

But seriously if your scared of going to get groceries just have them delivered. But then again the kid that's delivering them could be a homosidic maniac and gun you down right before he takes advantage of your wife. On second thought eather learn some defensive tactics or hope for the best. Seems with all your postings you feel like your dead anyway.

Well over ninety percent of gun violence is committed by illegal gun owners while almost lawful protection is because people can legally own guns. I am not pro NRA so much but gun ownership is a huge responsibility. Tell me as a Veteran that has served in combat that I can not own a gun. No I do not own an automatic or a pistol.

Florida Jewish Community Drives up Gun Sales in Wake of Hamas Attacks and Antisemitism

The attacks in Israel by Hamas, and the support for the terrorist organization all over the world, have Jewish communities all over the world on high alert. Even those who are not Jewish but fully support Israel's right to self-defense and support their Jewish friends and neighbors are paying more attention to their surroundings. Here in the U.S., the result of the attacks, is that in one Jewish community, people are taking defending themselves, their families, and their property into their own hands. Many residents of South Florida's Jewish community have seen a significant increase in gun and ammunition sales since the attacks.

    https://twitter.com/FreeStateNH/sta...ke-of-hamas-attacks-and-antisemitism-n2165175

David Kowalsky owns the Florida Gun Store in Hollywood, Florida. He says that supplies are flying off the shelves as fast as he can stock them. The attacks on Israel and the sharp rise in antisemitism all over the world have both American Jews and those who have immigrated from Israel eager to exercise their Second Amendment rights. Kowalsky says:

“Israeli and Orthodox Jews for the most part. Just wanting to be trained to protect their families and have a firearm at home or on their person. Since last Saturday, we have seen a tremendous public display of how prevalent anti-Semitism is and hate speech and how they want to rid the world of Jews.”

As gun stores are seeing a rise in sales, shooting ranges are also seeing an uptick in training and sales. Pembroke Gun Range in Pembroke Park and Nexus Shooting in Davie both report a rise in business. The Florida Gun Store specializes in concealed carry and training. Many of the congregants at a local synagogue, including a group of women, have enrolled in the classes. Endi Tennenhaus is a member of that synagogue and reports that most of the men in the congregation are beginning to arm themselves. But she thought it was equally important that women were able to defend themselves as well. She said: “We said, ‘What about the women?’ We need to do the things we need to do to prepare. To stay safe and to be able to use a gun, God forbid if we ever should need one.”

The attack by Hamas on October 7, which left 1,400 people dead, was the largest loss of Jewish lives since the Holocaust. And the subsequent rise in the incidents of antisemitism around the world is more than a good argument to be vigilant and armed. Two Swedish citizens, in Brussels, Belgium, to see a soccer game, were shot and killed recently by a gunman claiming to have ties to ISIS. In France, which has the world's third-largest Jewish population, more than 24 arrests nationwide and more than 100 antisemitic incidents have been reported. And in a move that might prompt one to ask what decade we are living in, integration commissioner Guner Balci suggested reluctantly that for their safety, Jews in Berlin should hide any outward signs of their faith.

In the U.S., the sharp rise in antisemitic sentiment since the attacks can be easily found on college campuses. At Harvard University, thirty student organizations signed a letter placing blame for the conflict entirely on Israel. Micah Gritz is a senior at Tufts University and head of a Jewish student group on campus. He says that the atmosphere on campus has been "horrifying" for Jewish and Israeli students and that they are "incredibly scared." Pro-Palestinian protests have been held at Arizona State University and Indiana University. Even before the attack on Israel, an Ipsos poll showed that 57 percent of Jewish students said they witnessed or experienced antisemitism at school or in public.

The wide-open U.S. southern border is also an impetus for American Jewish communities to arm up. With approximately 1.7 million "gotaways," those who evade Border Patrol, and roughly seven million people from all over the world who have crossed the border, including those from Middle East countries, and a fiscal year 2023 record total of 151 people on the FBI terror watch list encountered, it all leads to a monumental national security risk. Lora Reis is the director of the Border Security and Immigration Center at the Heritage Foundation. She also served as the Department of Homeland Security's acting deputy chief of staff. She is concerned that lax immigration policy is "waking up" any possible terror sleeper cells already in the country. She said of the attacks in Israel and any potential for an attack on U.S. soil:

"And already with the Hamas, pro-Hamas protests in the U.S. this week in New York City and elsewhere. That was a very public signal to say, 'Yes, we're here.' And if the U.S. acts to support Israel in the Middle East then there will be a response here. They don't need to fly in on their Mad Max devices like they did this past weekend in Israel. They're already here."

If Jewish communities in Florida are arming themselves, it is a pretty good bet that it is happening in other parts of the U.S.

Care to provide evidence for this claim? Most of the mass shooters are legal gun owners because they obtained their weapons from dealers.

Dylan Roof bought his weapons legally.

Can you name any mass shooters that obtained their weapons illegally?

Bullshit! The best majority of Americans do not carry guns with them everywhere. Private ownership of a gun in no way makes you free. If anything, those people are a slave to that gun, as they feel they need it to make themselves feel safe. It's a false sense of freedom.

The reason the Japanese navy did not go to the main land is because Yamamoto believed that behind EVERY BLADE O GRASS was an American with a gun!

There is still a minority of Americans that cling to their guns. Living in fear, thinking that those guns will take that fear away.

Fear is a country where only the criminals have guns. Out of the 100 plus firearms we have collected none have hurt anyone on their own. Now the sawed off baseball bat that we have is a different story. Maby bats should be regulated also.
