Last chapter we saw H.M.S. Spring Thorpe torpedoed by a German U-boat, most
of the crew escaped in the lifeboats and they are trying to sail back to
the United States. One reader emailed me to point out I had East and West
reversed, my apologies to all. This is a fictional story and time lines may
not be as they actually occurred so please don't point out errors of this
nature, I research a fair amount but I wasn't alive when this all
occurred. I'm trying to entertain not give you a history lesson.
The Atlantic Express Chapter 15.....................by justjames17.
The cold night air and sea fog swirled about the small flotilla of
lifeboats as they drifted with the currents, the wind was non existent and
the sails hung sagging on the masts. Most of the crew was asleep huddled
against one another for what little warmth they could find, a watchman was
awake in case a vessel passed near by. The silence was only broken by the
slap of wavelets on the wooden hulls as the boats drifted coldly
silent. The burnt stokers suffered most under the frigid conditions as the
cold sapped what little life force remained in their steam scalded bodies,
pitiful moans frothed from their tortured charred lips. They wouldn't
survive this second night in the open, there were little medical supplies
salvaged when the ship sank so quickly.
The sky astern began to glow softly as the sun approached the horizon,
black turned to dark grey then those awake and shivering realized they
could make out the faces surrounding them in the gloom. Light increased as
the frozen men shivered awake, two more of the scalded engine room crew
died with the return of light, they were gently set adrift after a short
prayer to float away sinking slowly into the still inky black sea.
Charles, the captain slowly arose to stand swaying on his feet as he
ascertained that the boats were still close together, he called to the
others and asked if all was well with them, muffled replies sounded through
the wraith like fog swirls saying they were all ok. The crew all sat
shivering their feet saturated in the swirling bilge water in the boats,
ships biscuits were distributed and water was measured out for each man,
they chewed silently and drank the meager water rations as the sun climbed
slowly from the horizon.
The fog burnt off as the sun rose higher and cats paws of wind began to
ruffle the oily surface as the wind awoke setting the sails slatting wetly
as they flapped and slowly filled drawing the boats through the water. The
crew became alive with the motion as they realized once again they were
heading towards safety, if only the wind maintained direction in a few days
they should be close in to the shipping lanes along the eastern seaboard of
the Americas. The day drew on with the heavily laden boats making 5 knots
with the good breeze, the men's spirits rose with the distance traveled and
just before sunset a plane was seen passing well to the North of their
position, unfortunately too far away to see their plight.
The sun lowered slowly to rest ahead of the boats as once again the wind
dropped and their boats again were at the whim of the uncertain
currents. Another frigid night was in store for the desperate men as night
darkened about them, another issue of rations was given and as they nibbled
the night descended bringing with it the damp and the gray ghostly sea fog
creeping and enveloping their shivering bodies, it soon soaked through
their clothing making their bodies clammy and chilled to the bone. Their
heavy duffle coats silvered with the tiny droplets from the water vapor,
prayers were muttered to the heavens to alleviate their misery. Sleep
slowly overcame their discomfort and heads began to nod as the boats rolled
on the bosom of the deep, as the stars far above winked coldly at the fog
bound ocean below.
In the early hours of the morning the lookout shook his Captain's shoulder
saying, "I hear ship's engines close by sir."
Charles shook himself and lifted his head turning this way and that trying
to ascertain where the sound was coming from, he decided it was coming from
the South and he fumbled with his cold numb fingers trying to extricate a
flare cartridge from the waterproof container. He succeeded and opened the
breech of the flare pistol rammed in the cartridge and raised it overhead
as he pulled the trigger, the loud report echoed back from the surrounding
fog as the flare tore up through the foggy air to explode in a red flash
high above the boat.
A red haze filled the fog as the flare slowly drifted down on its parachute
swaying back and forth as it fell; the men awoken by the explosion all
began searching the swirling mist. After some minutes a vague shape
appeared blending into the grey backdrop, a warship approached their
position. Charles peered into the haze and realized it was a large capital
ship of some type, a heavy cruiser or larger it closed with them slowly
until it loomed far above them. A harsh guttural voice boomed out heavy
with a foreign accent, "Approach now for you the war is over."
The ship's side was lined with seamen pointing rifles into the boat, the
ship was a German raider of great power and size and Charles remembered the
battle previously when a raider had destroyed the valiant old armed
merchant cruiser HMS Orontes This vessel looked similar as it loomed from
the surrounding fog, an officer barked orders and a scrambling net was
lowered down the steep grey hull to splash into the water, the crew in the
lifeboats were ordered to approach and climb aboard. Three of the four
boats approached the ship, the fourth was hidden in the fog and the crew
quietly rowed away from the area with muffled oars.
Charles climbed up first and was helped over the rail to stand dejectedly
on the spotless deck,. He watched his crew clamber aboard and saw the
Germans search each one for weapons and anything else they could
souvenir. Their bedraggled frozen bodies shivering as they hung their heads
at the shame of being captured, the German officer spoke in exceptionally
good English saying, "For you the war is over, we will keep you on board
our ship until we meet our supply vessel when we will transfer you for the
trip back to Germany. You will meet some of your country men below,
officers and crews from several ships we have sunk."
A German Petty Officer took charge of the men marching them away below
decks leaving Charles, the Chief Engineer along with the Gunnery officer
and Navigator standing in a huddle. The German told them to follow him and
they entered the superstructure and made their way up to the bridge
deck. Here they saw the German Captain looking resplendent in a polished
soft leather bridge coat his gold leafed cap set at a jaunty angle as he
stood there smoking a cigarette as he smiled at them disarmingly. Charles
saluted the man as he was a full captain and was senior in rank to him and
the German returned the salute in the old naval gesture not the salute of
Hitler's Nazi Party. He smiled and said, `Well captain I hope you didn't
suffer too much in the boats, we came as soon as we could when the U-boat
sent out its message. It took us some time to estimate where you could have
sailed to and I must compliment our Navigation Officer for his expertise."
He rubbed his chin and ordered the ship get under way and run hard and fast
while darkness covered their course, the huge ship began to shudder as the
massive engines began to turn over driving her massive hull speedily
through the fog and darkness. The Bridge crew seemed very efficient as
would be expected on a capital ship of the German Navy; their Captain
seemed an affable and pleasant man who ruled with an iron fist in a velvet
glove. He introduced himself to Charles and the other officers, "I am
Captain Langsdorf and you are aboard my ship the Graf Spee. I hope your
stay with us will be as pleasant as it can be, I have ordered my men to
treat you as officers and gentlemen. It is unfortunate but most of your
stay will be under lock and key but you will be allowed time outside to
exercise, however I must warn you that any attempts to escape will be dealt
with seriously."
Charles sneaked a look at the compass rose to see that the ship was
steaming fast due South towards the South Atlantic. Captain Langsdorf asked
them to follow the Lieutenant below and they turned tagging along in his
wake down into the thundering hull. He led them to a hatchway and gestured
to two armed sentries to open the hatch, inside was a large area with tiers
of wooden bunks and a motley group of Merchant Marine Officers in all
states of attire staring curiously at the new arrivals. The hatch slammed
shut and they heard the catches dogged on then the oldest Captain, a ruddy
faced white bewhiskered old timer in rumpled clothing with four tarnished
gold stripes on his jacket sleeves walked over his large gnarled hand
outstretched saying, "Welcome to our prison, I'm Hendricks of the Zulu
Dawn, I've been aboard the longest here so I'm sort of the Senior Officer
of the mess."
Charles stretched out his hand and felt it swallowed by the old man's as he
shook his hand nearly jerking his shoulder out of joint, he introduced
himself and his officers to the Captain who then began reeling off the
names of the other prisoners. After everyone was introduced they offered
the newcomers a cup of hot tea which was brewing on a small stove in the
corner of the cabin. The naval men welcomed the steaming hot drink holding
the enameled metal mugs in their hands absorbing some warmth into their
still numb fingers. They sipped the hot brew thankfully as their empty
stomachs rumbled noisily; Captain Hendricks looked at them and asked, "How
long were you adrift in the boats?"
Charles told him so the others rustled around and brought them some food to
alleviate their hunger; they all sat around watching the hungry men scoff
the food eagerly. Soon gone the men climbed into the bunks and tried to
sleep what was left of the night away. The morning found them awake and
eager to get out of the cabin to investigate the German ship, they had been
told that she exhibited some damage to her superstructure from gunfire and
Charles was now almost certain it was the ship that had attempted to sink
the convoy months ago.
Time passed in the crowded cabin, much discussion of the war and
experiences of those present passed the time, the raider had obviously been
busy as there were representatives of eleven sunken ships. She had sunk
some in the Atlantic then the Indian Ocean before returning again to the
Atlantic to carry on her marauding cruise, her continual shifting of the
patrol areas had confused the British Navy as they were uncertain how many
raiders were prowling the high seas.
The hatch opened and some German sailors entered carrying food which they
put on the long mess table in the centre of the cabin, the prisoners rushed
the table after the hatch closed and they all fell to munching on their
breakfasts which consisted of hot oatmeal with condensed milk and a little
honey to sweeten it. The kettle on the stove boiled to make more tea and
they were soon sipping on the elixir happily, meal over the men began
chatting and the newcomers found out their exercise period was from 1000
hours till 1100 hours then the seaman were allowed out as the officers went
back into the cabin. They were separated from each other and only caught
glimpses as they passed back and forth.
The ship was still fleeing fast to the South, running at close to thirty
knots putting as much distance as she could from the area where they picked
up Charles and some of his crew, Charles wondered what was happening to the
fourth boat under the First Lieutenant. He prayed they were safe and would
soon be picked up, they could inform the Navy of the presence of the Graf
Spee and the direction she had disappeared to in the mist.
The life boat was sailing fast on a freshening wind, the wooden hull
driving through the small white caps spray flying into the boat drenching
the already chilled men, Mister Johnson the First Officer hunched over
holding the tiller as he steered the heeled over craft, men bailing water
from the bilges as it sprayed aboard. The Captain and their fellow crew
members taken from them in the foggy night by the looming warship, they had
been lucky to escape into the gloom and not end up as prisoners. The
favorable wind was driving them across the undulating waters as fast as the
stubby hull could travel.
The day wore on and the sun began to lower in the west when an aircraft
flew towards them, it was a PBY Catalina flying boat obviously out on
patrol looking for enemy vessels. It flew slightly behind the driving boat
then turned and lumbered directly overhead as rhe men waved frantically at
the plane, it waggled its wings to let them know it had seen them and began
to climb higher circling the area. The aircrew were radioing the position
of lifeboat to the authorities and the Coast Guard despatched a vessel to
assist. The rescue ship was about 12 miles away and they reported that they
could see the plane in the distance, it turned towards and steamed fast to
pick up the survivors before darkness descended.
Back aboard the Graf Spee the officers were on deck enjoying the sunshine
and fresh air, Charles was studying the damage he could see and it looked
definitely what he had observed through his binoculars during the battle so
long ago. The thought that he was now a prisoner on that same ship was
unbelievable but here he was, he leant on the guard rail watching the water
flash past the throbbing hull he could feel the throbbing of the engines
through the soles of his sea boots and his forearms resting on the
railing. The vibration was stirring his penis as it rubbed on his underwear
and he soon was sporting an erection that tented his trousers out visibly,
a young German seaman on guard nearby was watching the growing bulge in the
handsome officer's pants. His eyes were locked onto the bulging crotch as
he licked his young pink lips; the young man had been at sea for nearly
eight months and was sexually starved, his teenaged hormones rioting inside
his muscular fit young body.
His only way of easing his misery was the occasional wank when he could get
a little time alone which wasn't very often, he desperately desired a good
sexual romp with another man and he thought the handsome English officer
would be a very acceptable player. He was watching the man when he turned
his face towards him; the Englishman smiled at him and nodded then let his
eyes roam up and down his body studying him in his tight fitting
uniform. His day dreaming had caused his teenaged penis to erect and his
rock hard erection was standing out proudly from his groin. He saw the
prisoner looking at the taut crotch of his trousers and he blushed as he
self consciously tried to adjust it to hide his hard on. The Englishman
winked at him and smiled again.
Charles had seen the very young blonde lad cradling the rifle in his arms
as he stood watching the prisoners; he admired the erect posture and sleek
build of the seaman. His cocky arrogant stance showed his attributes
wonderfully, his flat stomach, curved bubble bum and the very respectable
bulge that was growing bigger as he watched. He was entranced when he
looked up at the lad's unblemished fair face tanned by the sun and saw him
blushing charmingly, his bright blue eyes shining in the sunlight beneath
the slim almost white eyebrows and surrounded by the long white/blonde eye
lashes. The lad was obviously embarrassed that he had seen his erection so
Charles slid his hand down and clutched his hard manhood and made sure the
lad noticed him doing it. The boy's eyes were locked on the action and he
again licked his perfect lips hungrily, Charles smiled at him again and
released his throbbing tool then stood up straight and stretched himself
exposing his excited prick.
He moved slowly along the deck till he was next to the young man and leant
on the rail once more as he said quietly, "Good day to you young man my
name is Charles may I ask yours?"
The young guard looked all around and saw nobody was watching them and he
whispered, "My name is Gunther, are you interested in men?"
Charles was taken aback by the lad's directness and he looked into the
eager eyes of the seaman, he nodded and said, "Are you too interested? I
think you are a very good looking man. Do you get much entertainment on
this ship?"
Gunther frowned a little and dropped his eyes then said, "No none I'm
getting desperate to relieve my aching balls."
Charles thought for a minute and asked, "Is there any way we can attend to
your needs?"
The young man said, "If you wanted to go to the head I could escort you
there."
Charles grinned and said, "Good idea old chap lead the way." The guard
called out to the Petty Officer and told him in German what was going on
and the Petty Officer nodded and told him to go ahead, Gunther turned to me
and directed me into the superstructure, he took me to the head and we
entered and found it deserted. We went to a cubicle and entered he stood in
the entrance while I undid his fly and pulled out his straight silky cock,
it was the most beautiful I had seen in ages about seven inches long but
straight as a pole uncircumcised and a creamy pink colour, the knob visible
through the covering hood was just slightly larger than the shaft with a
raised flared edge buckling up the velvety foreskin. I could feel the heat
burning through his outer skin as it pulsed excitedly in my grasp; I gently
pulled the cover back and watched the deep crimson helmet appear as silky
skin retracted back and dropped behind the flared edge.
I smelt the humid musky aroma from his pre cum slippery knob I watched
fascinated as a clear dew drop leaked from the perfect twitching little
piss slit. I bent down and licked it from the quivering knob as Gunther
gasped with pleasure, his fit young hips strained to push his penis into my
mouth as I held his hips with my fingers on the deep dimpled cheeks of his
curvaceous behind as he strained forward. I teased him then I realised we
might be interrupted at any moment so I opened to him and ingested that
throbbing tool, my tongue slavering around his perfect knob tasting his
juice as it leaked rapidly in his excitement. I began to bob on his
shuddering shaft as he groaned and moaned his fingers tight on my head
pulling me onto his crotch; I saw his neat young blonde bush as my nose
pressed into the fragrant thatch.
Gunther was so excited he was shaking in utter lust as he pounded into my
face hard driving his sweet sausage into my hungry throat, in moments his
climax rushed him over the edge and he blew his thick creamy load spurting,
gushing and flooding my mouth and throat. Again and again his perfect penis
erupted while his young body quaked from head to toe his knees jellied and
I held him to my face sucking his essence from his almost smooth balls. His
whimpering quivering body emptied finally and he sagged on my back panting
while I tongued his rapidly shrivelling cock. He pulled from my mouth with
a gasp as my tongue caused him excruciating sensations, he had had enough
his cock was too sensitive to touch and he reeled erect holding onto my
back.
He panted out, "Oh! That, gasp, was so, pant, intense you are very good at
sucking cocks. I feel empty and completely relaxed. Thank you Herr
Captain."
I grinned as I licked my lips savouring his delicious flavour as Gunther
tucked his penis away and did up his buttons. He looked around the head and
said, "Come we must return before they come looking for us."
He led me back to the deck area where I wandered off to chat to my
navigator trying to work out our position using the rough position we were
picked up in and the speed of the ship travelling south. The guards began
to shout as our exercise time finished and we saw the seamen coming on deck
as we were herded though the hatch into our cabin.
To be continued.
