The Man with the Jeep

Chapter 80

"Nice to meet you, Cage. I'm Andrew and this is John. Come on in."

Cage trailed John into the living room to the couch while Andrew closed the
door and followed them.

"Can I get you something to drink?" Andrew asked.

"I don't want to impose," Cage replied quickly.

"No imposition," Andrew assured him. "I have some orange juice and of
course water"

Cage seemed torn, but eventually asked for some water.

"No problem," Andrew agreed. "I'll be right back."

Cage noticed the TV was frozen mid-scene.

"Hey, that's Last Holiday, isn't it?"

"Yeah," John confirmed.

"Good movie," he said. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt. I can come
back later."

He was halfway to his feet before John stopped him.

"Don't worry about it."

Andrew came back right then with a tall glass of water, which he handed to
Cage.

Cage drank a good amount of it before he put the glass down.

"Thanks."

"You're welcome." Andrew said graciously and then paused, trying to decide
how to proceed before deciding to just be bold and plow forward. "So you
are the one who was living here before I got the place. How long have you
been here?"

"I'm not sure," Cage admitted. "Maybe about six months."

"Since winter?"

"Yeah. I was trying to just camp outside, but it got really cold, so when I
came across that old door by the creek and found it unlocked, I decided to
take advantage of it to get out of the weather."

"So you just moved in?"

"Well, I wasn't planning on it. I assumed the owners would come back any
day, so I just stayed right inside the door of that cellar just to get out
of the snow. After maybe a week of not seeing anyone or any tracks or
anything, I let my curiosity get the better of me and explored the house a
bit. That's when I realized no one had been here in years and figured why
not."

"I get that," Andrew replied. "A roof and some heat goes a long way."

"Well, the roof and walls anyway, I had to figure out how to get the heat
going."

"Ah!" Andrew exclaimed. "So you were the one who hooked up the power!"

"Yeah," Cage said sheepishly.

"How did you do it? I know the water is from a well, but the power stumped
me for a bit."

Cage looked embarrassed. "I just bypassed the meter. It's not hard if you
know how. I knew it was wrong, but I was so cold I did it anyway."

"So you're an electrician?"

"Not really, but I took some AP classes because I wanted to get into
electrical engineering."

"So that's what you do?"

"No," Cage said sadly. "That didn't work out."

"Did your dream change, or what happened?"

"Look, I don't want to be rude, but why the third degree? Why'd you want to
meet? Think I'm stealing from you or something?"

"Oh!" exclaimed Andrew. "Sorry."

John gave him a look to which Andrew gave him a stronger look right back
with a curt shake of his head.

"I wanted to meet you to see what kind of a person you are," Andrew
answered. "To be perfectly frank, it never occurred to me that you'd be a
thief. I've felt like I was being watched every time I've been here, which
is super creepy, but when you left your note, I had second thoughts about
your sanity. Psycho is one thing, but down on your luck is something else."

He could feel John relax without even looking at him.

"Yeah, well I may be sane, but I'm still a loser," Cage replied.

"Let me finish," Andrew said before Cage could continue. "I'm opening a new
business, and I could really use some help, so I wanted to feel you out and
see if you might be a good fit to work with me. That's why I invited you
here to talk."

"What about him?" Cage asked gestured to John.

"He has his own job in town, but I do value his judgment regarding
people. That's why he's here. And maybe to back me up in case you did turn
out to be a psycho after all.

Cage smiled a little despite himself.

"Obvi, I'm no threat," he said, pulling up his sleeves to show his thin
arms.

"Judge you by your size, I do not," Andrew intoned in his best Yoda voice.

Cage looked at him blankly.

Andrew sighed to himself. The boy was too young.

"So what brought you here?" he asked aloud.

Cage hesitated for a minute before he spoke.

"I used to live in Florida, but my mom kicked me out of the house last
spring. I crashed on friends' couches until I finished high school and then
spent the summer doing odd jobs. I couldn't get a real job because I didn't
have an address, so I decided to try to track down my dad instead. He and
my mom split when I was a baby. I don't remember him at all, but I did know
what city he was in, and I came out here to find him. I stayed at the
mission for a while, but eventually I found out my dad had lost everything
and he hasn't been heard from since. There were rumors he became a hermit
in the woods north of town, so I figured I'd come out and look for him. But
then the weather got cold. We don't have that in Floridaat least not
where I wasso it kind of caught me by surprise. That's why I stayed
here, but I've mostly just been trying to survive since then."

"Fair enough," Andrew said understandingly. "Sometimes that's all you can
do. What do you want to do when you get back on your feet?"

"I dunno really. I'd still kinda like to get into electrical engineering or
maybe computers. I like that technical stuff."

"Somebody has to," Andrew laughed.

"Right? I just don't know if I can get into college anymore."

"Did your grades drop or something?"

"Oh no, nothing like that. I just don't know how I could afford it, that's
all."

"Don't count yourself out yet, man," John said. "You're young and there is
plenty of time to get that taken care of if you want to."

"I agree," Andrew chimed in. "I didn't think this opportunity would ever
happen for me either, but here we are and it's happening."

"You must be excited," Cage said.

"I really am, but I'm scared too. I'm hopeful, but I feel like I've bitten
off more than I can chew."

"I get that," Cage nodded. "Sorry to interrupt everything, but can I use
your bathroom?"

"Of course! You know where it is?" he asked tongue-in-cheek.

"I think I can find it," Cage assured him with a small smile.

When they heard the door close, Andrew turned to John.

"So what's your take?"

"Seems like a nice kid, actually."

"I think so too. Think I should hire him?"

"He seems rather put together for someone his age," John admitted. "I
didn't expect that. My only hesitation is that our nerd seems a little
victimized, and I don't want that rubbing off on you. You've been making
some good headway, and I'd hate to see you slip back into your shell by
picking up some old habits. Other than that, it could be good. What do you
think?"

"I think I'll offer him a job."

"Just set your boundaries and write them down so you know you're on the
same page," John advised.

"Good call," Andrew agreed.

When Cage returned, Andrew offered him a job.

"I don't know how soon I can pay you much, but I can offer room and board
and a small paycheck now."

"Hmm," said Cage thoughtfully. "It would be nice to officially have a home
again. But can I have days off and stuff, or would it be all day every
day?"

"I'll only make you work eights hour days five days a week," Andrew
promised. "But once we officially open, it might be a while before you get
weekends free."

"I suppose that makes sense," Cage acceded. "It sounds like a good idea."

"All right. I'll write up an official offer letter here in the next couple
days and we'll go over it and make sure it works for both of us."

"Okay. And then I can move back in?"

"You can move in right now if you want. Into an actual bedroom with a
decent bed in it this time. Which reminds me: how often were you actually
here when we were?"

"Not all the time, but kind of a lot."

"I see," commented Andrew. "Were you here the first day we came to look at
the place?"

"I think so. You caught me by surprise. I was so used to having the place
to myself that I let my guard down and didn't even realize you were here
until I heard you coming up the steps. All I could do was hide under the
bed and hope you didn't look."

"But that was when we" Andrew started as his face paled.

"Yeah," said Cage with a red face. "You did."

"I KNEW we weren't alone!" Andrew exclaimed, punching John in the shoulder.

"Hey!" John protested. "It's not my fault! And so what? You know it would
have been just that much hotter if you actually knew he was watching!"

Now Andrew's face was red.

"What? I'm just sayin'" John said defensively.

Cage looked very uneasy.

"I wasn't watching," he offered meekly.

"I'm sorry, Cage," Andrew said helplessly.

"For what?" John demanded. "It was hot, and you know it!"

"I'm sorry for subjecting him to that. Probably grossed him out."

"It was hot, actually," Cage said quietly, cutting Andrew short.

"What did you say?" he asked Cage.

"It sounded super hot from where I was. All I could see were John's legs,
but I could picture the rest easily enough. Why do you think I stuck around
and kept coming back?"

"So you're" Andrew trailed off.

"Yeah, I'm gay too! So what?" Cage said defiantly. "Why do you think my mom
disowned me? I was outed to her. She hates gays, so she hates me now that
she knows. I came looking for my dad because none of the rest of my family
will even talk to me anymore. I was hoping he would, but it looks like I
came too late and I really am on my own. Look, I'm sorry I snuck I around,
but what would you do if two sexy guys suddenly moved in on you and had hot
sex together?"

Embarrassed by his outburst, Cage looked back at Andrew.

"Maybe this isn't the best idea after all. I'd better just grab some of my
stuff and head out."

"Don't, Cage," Andrew said. "You're still welcome to stay. I'm just a
little embarrassed is all. I'm not as uninhibited as someone else I could
name (to which John shrugged his shoulders), but I'm working on
that. Regardless, the offer still stands."

"Thanks," Cage said humbly. "But are you sure?"

"Yeah."

"Okay."

Cage went out to get some of his things from the cellar to bring up to the
room.

"He's a sensitive and feisty little guy, isn't he?" John commented after
Cage went outside.

"Maybe so, but I get it. He's still a teenager, after all."

"Barely. We should welcome him into the fold of adulthood," John suggested
with a wink.

"Absolutely not!" Andrew asserted. "We are not going to take advantage of
him for opening up to us, and that's that!"

"He didn't really open up to us all the way," John said suggestively. "At
least not yet."

"You're so dirty!"

"Oh, come on! Underneath that robe of indignation, you had the same thought
I did. Admit it."

Andrew shook his head. He would not admit to John that he was right. It
seemed like he was way hornier these days than he'd been since he was
14. Maybe more. He didn't seem to have a particular type anymore. Now he
could see attraction in skinny guys and big guys, hairy guys and smooth
guys, short guys and tall guys, and anywhere in between. He placed the
blame squarely on John.

"I know what you're thinking," John said with a knowing smile.

"I seriously doubt that," Andrew said obstinately.

"You're thinking he's cute, but you don't want to tell me because then I
might push things with him." "Horseshoes and hand grenades," replied
Andrew.

"Say what?"

"Horseshoes and hand grenades: almost, but almost doesn't count except in
horseshoes and hand grenades."

"Uh huh."

"Just because you might warp me doesn't mean I'll let you twist my words."

"I warp you, do I?" John asked with a cocked eyebrow. "What factor would
you say?"

"Point five," Andrew drolly.

"Aw, that's it?" John complained. "I was hoping I was doing better than
that."

"In your dreams," Andrew said coyly.

"Well, that's a given," John retorted. "You live there."

Aw, thought Andrew. He may be a pervert, but he was super sweet on the
inside.

On impulse, he leaned over and kissed a very surprised John full on the
mouth.

It was like a cue for Cage to walk back in the door. He paused for a
second, unsure of what to do, so he quietly cleared his throat to let them
know he was there.

Andrew pulled back.

"Sorry, Cage."

"No worries on my account, but I don't want to be the creeper anymore."

"Thanks," Andrew replied.

But John's simultaneous response was a bit louder: "You don't have to worry
about that with us."

"Cashing checks without checking the balance again, I see," Andrew said,
half teasing, before he realized Cage was still standing there
expectantly. "What's up?"

"Which room do you want me in?"

"Take your pick," Andrew said. "I have the first one at the top of the
stairs, but any of the others are yours for the taking."

"Thanks," Cage said, and shuffled off with arms full of stuff.

"We should probably help the guy move his stuff so it doesn't take all
night," Andrew suggested.

John sighed. "That would be best," he admitted.

When Cage came back down, they went outside with him and around to the
cellar door. It was dark and hard to see where they were going, but Cage
clearly knew the way.

"I didn't even think to grab a flashlight," Andrew said. "How can you see
your way?"

"I'm just used to it, I guess," Cage said. "I've been out here for a while
nowwatch for a root down there on the rightand maybe my eyes adapt
quicker."

"Could be."

They gathered as much as they could carry and followed him back and up the
stairs, but rather than turn right back to the master as Andrew expected,
they went to the second room on the right.

"You didn't want your old room back?" Andrew asked curiously.

"No thanks. Somehow it doesn't seem right now that I can't pretend it's my
own place," Cage answered. "Besides, this has a much nicer bed."

"Fair enough," Andrew laughed.

They set the stuff down and John led them back downstairs. When they
reached the bottom, John paused. You know, it's kind of silly to take the
long way in the dark when we can stay inside. Let's just go through the
cellar."

They agreed, and Cage unexpectedly turned toward the kitchen.

"Where are you going?" asked Andrew.

"To the cellar," Cage said, suddenly less assured.

"Isn't that this way?" Andrew asked, gesturing toward the living room with
its little sidekick office.

"This is quicker," Cage declared. He led them into the kitchen and straight
to a blank spot of wall on the right side. He casually pressed a tile in
the wall with all the fluidity of experience and started walking into the
wall that was opening before him.

Another secret door? This was getting ridiculous! It wouldn't take much to
put a normal doorway here, but Andrew wasn't sure he wanted to. There was
something just so cool about these secret parts to the house.

He shared a look with John, who seemed to be thinking the same thing.

"I don't remember any of this when I came visiting as a kid. I wonder if
the Bradshaws even knew."

Between the three of them, they made quick work of moving the heavy cabinet
out of the way and then trooped down to the cellar. Though the light was
dim, it was much better than stumbling around in the night outside.

They latched the door shut and shuffled all of the stuff back into the
house, leaving the food and cooking items in the kitchen, and taking the
rest up to Cage's room. It didn't take long.

After everything was brought in, Andrew made some sandwiches, including an
extra for Cage.

He protested mildly, but Andrew made like an Italian grandmother and
insisted he eat them both.

"We're going to finish our movie, and you're welcome to join us if you
like," Andrew offered when they had all eaten.

"I'm kind of beat and I think I'm just going to go to bed, if that's all
right," Cage said uncertainly.

"Of course," Andrew said. "Whatever you want to do is fine. Good night."

"Good night," John echoed.

"G'night," Cage replied and went upstairs.

"You now have a teen in your house," John commented.

"Yeah, I know, but I think it will be good."

"Probably, but promise me you'll say something if it starts to be too
much. I don't want you to get overwhelmed."

"Okay," Andrew agreed as they sat back down on the couch.

They watched the rest of the movie before making their way up to Andrew's
bedroom and the fancy new bed.

"This has been quite the day," John observed.

"Yeah, but in a good way," Andrew said, closing the door.

"Definitely," John agreed. "You were amazing from start to finish."

"I don't think I'm actually finished yet," Andrew said with a suggestive
wink.

"No?" John asked. "What else do you have on your agenda?"

"You," he said eagerly. "Do you think Cage is asleep?"

"Yeah, probably," John said. "But even if he isn't, I wouldn't let that
stop us. This is your house, you know. He can adjust or move on."

"Yeah, but"

"No buts," John insisted.

"But what if butts are on my mind?"

"Well in that case"

They drew in for a kiss and wasted no time in losing their clothes.

John picked Andrew up and practically tossed him on the bed and then
pounced on top of him. John pinned him down with his hands and legs and
ravished him with kisses all over.

"Ohhh," moaned Andrew. "Yessssss!"

His cock was already hard as steel and drooling with excitement, and John's
throbbing boner hovered above it, swaying back and forth and bumping into
Andrew's spear as he moved. Both were red and ready.

Andrew had one fleeting thought. He wondered if John might be right about
it being even hotter knowing someone was watching, but Andrew couldn't
imagine that anything could be better than this right here. The two of them
alone and focused wholly on bringing the most pleasure to each other
possible.

He knew he had closed the door firmly and so let it fall out of mind in
favor of more interesting things that were immediately in hand.

But he forgot there was another door to this room, and that one was not
firmly closed. It was partially open, in fact, and a pair of hungry teen
eyes were locked on, eagerly absorbing everything they saw.
